Trip to Penang

Back track to 18 - 19th of January. My cousins Chiau Ling and Jason and his girlfriend Elaine decided to take a weekend trip to Penang since me and Jason have never been. It would be a long four hour drive there... with Chiau Ling as the pro-driver.

Someone is a little excited to be going to Penang. XD In the car, I drove everyone nuts playing the "What's next?" game. It's was a bit hard... since they all didn't know how to play... and they all got so irritated at me! haha

So we left around 5:30pm on Friday night (because Jason had class until then) and we got into Penang around 9:30pm. So we finally got to our hotel and checked in and went to Gurney Drive in search of some food. We had asam laksa and char kuey teow as well as satay.

After being satisfied we went to the round about there to take some photos at the water feature. That night we had a drive around Batu Ferringhi looking for apartment's to stay in since we only booked the hotel for one night. The apartments were really nice and we met one aunty who owned 18 different apartments with the value around RM1 million each. Talk about being rich! In the end, after searching we decided to stay another night in the hotel because we couldn't be bothered moving around!

The next day we ate at Lorong Salamat, tasting the most expensive char kueh teow ever at $7.50 a plate! (It's only because the prawns they give you are HUGE!) But it was nice (forgot to take a picture!). Had asam laksa as well and some curry noodles. After that, we had to decide where to go.

They all asked me to look at the map and asked me where I wanted to go and I wanted to go to Pulau something... some island place which looked really beautiful. So I was giving the directions and saying it was in the direction of Batu Ferringhi (when it was actually on Gurney drive) until the road became different from the map! So the map was outdated. Oh well... so we went to Batu Ferringhi again... and we saw watersports!!! So we all decided to check out the water sports in particular parasailing since we all have never been and we saw it from a distance.

We had to enter through the front of Paradise Hotel where I was met by my very own beauty and slimming shop in Penang! hoho~

So we went to the back and we couldn't find Uncle Soon - (who we were told to look for). We called him and he said they were actually on the other side, so then he said that he would take his boat around and pick us up! Really good service! And in the mean time... we took some happy snaps!
I must say para sailing is one of the best experiences.. it was so much fun. I thought it'd be so scary but it was soooo much funn!!!! (Dorothy you have to try it and conquer your fear of heights! It's not scary at all!) Here we are all strapped into our parachute gear and water vests.

Then we went jet skiing... which was also fun. I just kept screaming and screaming because I didn't want to fall into the water because we didn't bring a change of clothes and we only had the clothes on our backs with us for the day.

Then after that we went for the banana boat. After having seen how the banana boats operate in America, I was afraid of being tipped into the ocean since their banana boats sway from side to side and turn over. It wasn't really that fun... and he didn't go that fast either. Later we found out it was because the two Malay girls told the driver to drive slower...

Then after that we went for the banana boat. After having seen how the banana boats operate in America, I was afraid of being tipped into the ocean because their banana boats sway from side to side and turn over up and down really ferociously. It wasn't really that fun... and he didn't go that fast either. We later found out it was because the 2 Malay girls told the driver not to drive that fast.

Jason said he felt no impact at the back and he told the driver to go faster "ka kin, ka kin - faster faster!", so the driver really went faster and Chiau Ling who was sitting in the front was literally jumping off her seat. I thought she was really going to fly off! But luckily she didn't.

Then that was the end of our water sports day. It was so much fun and we all got burnt black... me and Elaine didn't really get wet since we were the ones sitting behind of all the action. =)

Then later at night, we met up with my cousin Jimmy who's working in Penang and he took us to New Lane to have dinner... for more char keuh teow and asam laksa. Then later he took us to a nice crepe cottage for desserts. We waited ages for the crepes ... normal waiting time is at least half an hour. But it was worth it! The crepes were really really really delicious - comparable to Pancakes on the Rocks in Sydney, and only RM7 which is $2.40 AUSSIE DOLLARS MATE!

Later, I don't know why but they all wanted me to take a picture with the owner Aunty Agnes, just because I was from Australia. It was so embarrassing. But she spoke suprisingly really good English with a hint of an American accent... and she was really sweet.

On the way back home, we were all so tired... and I didn't get a good night's sleep because Jason was snoring like a pig! So I resorted to sleeping on the couch... which didn't help either so I ended up watching TV. So I slept in the car all the way back home =) Pity Chiau Ling since she didn't sleep at all and had to drive as well.

Overall the Penang trip was really fun. I really enjoyed the watersports... and the food?... well let's say I've had enough char keuh teow and asam laksa for my entire holiday. We ate that for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper for our entire Penang trip thanks to Mr Wong and then some more I suffered the consequences for 5 days after have diarrhea up to 5 times a day! tsk tsk.
