Gong-xi-fa-cai, hong pau nah lai!

I'm going to be celebrating my first Chinese New Year in Malaysia, away from my family, but with the rest of my extended family.

In Australia, Chinese New Year isn't that big a deal, and we don't really celebrate it much. We just have a sit down family dinner on CNY eve and get ang pau's and that's about it. Oh... and we eat the majority of the prawn crackers, pineapple tarts and nuts before the new year is ushered in!

It's going to be an interesting affair this year. I'm going to tell every aunt and uncle that since I've never collected ang pau from them for the past 23 years that they should double, triple and quadruple up my ang pau's and make them nice and thick to make up for the past 23 years! =P Gong-xi-fa-cai, hong pau nah lai! time to cash in... keke...I guess that's what every child looks forward to during Chinese New Year - it's the money! And I bet it's the time where parents dread the most because they spend the most money during this time. Seriously, it's crazy at the shopping centres these past few days with people trying to buy last minute food, drinks and CNY delicacies.

My favourite treats during CNY are the pineapple tarts! I've already gobbled down a whole tin of them by myself! I should learn how to make them, but I heard it's a tedious process - so it's probably easier just to buy and gobble down. Saves you the hassle!

I also love these cookies, but I forgot what they're called - some sort of peanut cookie that gets stuck to the roof of your mouth when you eat it!

Another thing I look forward to during CNY is eating yee sang. The idea behind eating yee sang is that all members of the family use their chopsticks and mix the ingredients by tossing them as high as possible whilst shouting out good tidings for health, prosperity, happiness etc. Supposedly the higher you raise your chopsticks to toss the ingredients, the closer you are to your wishes.

So anyway, I should have cleaned my room today, but I woke up late and got back late with a whole lot of shopping. I have stuff everywhere...guess I should wake up early tomorrow and start cleaning my room at least!
