Good Friday

Two weeks ago, we celebrated the death and resurrection of our Father. On Good Friday, I went to RiverView church with some of my cellies for the Easter Service. I have to say, Riverview seriously had the best drama production I had ever ever seen. That’s the first time I went to RiverView and I was seriously impressed. Donna – who was sitting next to me – who I only just met during “meet and greet” had tears flowing the entire service!

It started off with Jesus realising the calling that God had called him to – to bear the sins of the world on the cross so that those who love him and believe in Him will not perish but have eternal life. Judas, the one that was to betray Jesus, then kissed him and Jesus was arrested by several soldiers.

Then the drama production was actually taken outside of the church and the audience of... 500+ went outside to watch the events unfold. The High Priest came out and tried Jesus, yet he wasn’t given a fair trial – and everyone condemned him for doing nothing. They tried to find false evidence against him to put Him to death. Peter also denied Jesus three times – as He said he would. Jesus was then forced to carry the cross back into the theatre... where the drama production continued.

Inside the theatre, they took his clothes off and crucified Jesus on the cross. Then they hoisted the cross up on stage and everyone could see Jesus. Then all the actors left the stage and it was just Jesus and the audience. It was a really powerful scene intensified with all the lighting on the stage – to see Jesus, the son of God crucified on the cross – bearing all our sins and shame so that we may have another chance at life with Him in eternity.

Then Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Joseph and the wife of Zebedee came crying at his feet. Not long after, they took the body of Jesus down and carried him off stage through the aisle of the crowd to the back. It was really emotional to see Jesus being carried away. So real. It was definitely an awesome reminder of the events that happened a few thousand years ago when Christ died on the cross for our sins out of his amazing and unfathomable love for us all.

I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house, we then had Holy Communion and many committed their lives to Jesus that day and the many who were lost were now saved.

We have to remember that even though Christ died on Good Friday that wasn’t the end of it. It was a three day process, and even though the people at the time didn’t know it, Jesus would be resurrected again and is now sitting on the right hand side of God in all His glory.

Thank you for the cross, Lord
Thank you for the price You paid
Bearing all my sin and shame
In love You came
And gave amazing grace

Thank you for this love, Lord
Thank you for the nail pierced hands
Washed me in Your cleansing flow
Now all I know
Your forgiveness and embrace

Worthy is the Lamb
Seated on the throne
Crown You now with many crowns
You reign victorious
